as yet I can not see what the problem is...but I will

10 minutes later...ooo look I had " instead of : and that makes all the difference...

and by the way I helped my mother with her error message by googling it!!

The Pest

Cabbage White Butterfly, Pieris rapae
(Family Pieridae)

One of the Mysteries of Life....

What I wanna know is how come the white butterflies know when you have planted vegetables they like.

There was never a one to be seen in this garden, and the Bok choy has only been in a couple of days and whammo the word is out!!!

Who knew they liked asian greens? I thought it was just english cabbages etc.

How does the word get out?
And just where do the white butterflies live while they are awaiting the word???

If you know the answers please share!

Late this afternoon

we purchased mini gourmet corn, mini gourmet beetroot, silverbeet,
mini round tomatoes, -which we hope will look like those above.
roma tomatoes, 4 zucchini plants, and I think lemon grass.

We have decided to make a list of what we have
and another of what we want so we are working to a plan.

Later I walked home from the local village. It used to take me an easy 9 minutes.

I cannot even guess how long it took me today. I slept when I arrived home; I was exhausted.

Tired Thursday

Today - although I am really tired; having been awake most of the night, well, till 5am; I have nonetheless managed to

add a Guestbook to my Blog ...over there - to the right.

Sign on in, I'd love to hear from you.

Today - well actually yesterday.

I planted Bok choy and Basil. Not together.

The Basil went under the tomaotoes one of which is growing so fast....
The Bok choy is in a circle with oregeno in the center.

We need some Marigolds.
we are planning on growing mini gourmet vegetables under/inbetween the hedge trees.

Nice big storm tonight. More rain to come.

Terri Irwin

I watched the Australian interview Terri gave,
with Ray Martin as the reporter,

and was touched and inspired.

What an amazing woman she is.
What an amazing man Steve was/is.

What a love story.

A gift....

I received these tulips last week.

_________________________

I awoke and arose early today.

I have moved into another part of my sleeping cycle.

I planted some Cos lettuce, and plucked off the laterals from the tomato plants, as my mother taught me. I watered whatever looked like it was thirsty, and then harvested strawberries from my little plot: they are sweet and satisfying, amazing to observe through the growing stages.

Then I took a nap. I will no doubt do this several times today.

I called a friend in California and chatted to another in Hawaii.

I received an email from the Florida Pan-handle.

I thought about the Irwin Family and the wildlife of the world.

I figured out what to make for dinner - if I can find the energy.

I looked at the dust bunnies - not even hiding in the corners anymore. They are my next target.

Closing song from Steve Irwin's Memorial

I have had some requests to find the lyrics of the song - which clearly is known to most Australians - that John Williams sang as Steve's Truck left for the last time.

HERE IS A LINK
watch out it has music!

'True Blue'

Steve Irwin's favourite song - by John williamson

Hey True Blue, don't say you've gone
Say you've knocked off for a smoko
And you'll be back later on
Hey True Blue, Hey True Blue

Give it to me straight
Face to faceAre
you really disappearing,
Just another dying race,
Hey True Blue.

In Memory of Steve

I sat alone and watched the memorial for our wilderness warrior, australia's croc hunter, an amazing man of passion; a fantastic dad.

I thought it all well done and very interesting; and a true reflection of the man himself. However when Bindi came front and center to talk about her daddy it really got to me.
I thought how proud of her he'd be.
I watched as everyone stood to applaud her courage -
In her his passion will live on.

It was as if I could feel those present - and all Australians, indeed the world -
embracing her, taking her to their collective hearts.

I believe there will be nothing this little girl will not be able to do.

I am sure the crocodiles are gonna love her.

I feel quiet, reflective - changed somehow.

Crikey indeed!

"...now it's our turn to help Daddy."

(thanks to www.news.com.au) BINDI Irwin has taken centre-stage at Steve Irwin's memorial service, calling the Crocodile Hunter "the best daddy in the world".
Thousands of fans cheered the eight-year-old's appearance at the family's
Australia Zoo today as Bindi's mother Terri and brother Bob, two, looked on.
"My daddy was my hero, he was always there when I needed him," she said.
"He had an important job.
"I don't want daddy's passion to ever end. I had the best daddy in the whole word and I will miss him every day.
"Daddy made this place his whole life."
Earlier Steve's father Bob said: "On behalf of Terri, Bindi and Bob, and my two girls Mandy and Joy, I would like to thank all of you for your kind thoughts, letters, flowers and sympathy. "Please don't grieve for Steve, he's at peace now. But I would like you to grieve for the animals. The animals have lost the best friend they had, and so have I."
Celebrities and dignitaries, including Prime Minister John Howard, lined up to pay their own tributes at a service beamed live to millions of fans across Australia and around the world.
Russell Crowe appeared on a TV screen to deliver his own message to "my friend Steve". "I know, as humble as you are, you would still be pleased that the world sends its love," he said.
Mr Howard said: "We are here to celebrate the life of a remarkable man and a remarkable Australian. "Steve Irwin touched the hearts of Australians and touched the hearts of millions around the world in a very special way." He said he had the quality of being genuine and authentic and having a great zest for life. "As we share this celebration and honour this life can I say to Terri and the rest of your family, there are 20 million pairs of Australian arms reaching out to you today." Australian music star John Williamson sang True Blue, the
Crocodile Hunter's favourite song, earning a standing ovation from the crowd.
There were also tributes from Anthony Field of The Wiggles, actor Hugh Jackman, singer Justin Timberlake, Environment Minister Ian Campbell and actress Cameron Diaz, as Terri watched with son Bob on her knee and Bindi by her side.
"People were just taken by him, they were just inspired and in awe of his energy and how he actually went about putting himself forward and what he represented," Diaz said.
"Every kid was in love with the idea of being able to be him."
US TV host Larry King said he had interviewed Irwin, who was killed by a stingray two weeks ago, to impress his own children. "To Steve's wife Terri, my sincere condolences, to his kids - Bindi, Bob - your dad was a great man."
Wes Mannion, the director of Australia Zoo, broke down in tears as he tried to honour his mate.
"His love and passion for wildlife was so enveloping that I found it hard to breathe," he said. "Over time, we continued to grow closer and closer and shared so many exciting times." He said Irwin was a great dad: "His love and dedication has been inspiring. He was a true natural.
"To the world he was a hero. To me he was my hero. He saved my life. I'll miss you mate." The numerous tributes were mixed with footage of Irwin in his element, handling and teaching about some of the world's most dangerous creatures.
Best friend and business manager John Stainton introduced out-takes from Steve's shows.
At one stage, zoo workers laid out yellow flowers to spell out Steve's catchphrase "Crikey".
A single, empty seat has been left in the zoo's Crocoseum in memory of the much-loved environmentalist and TV star.
It was marked with the wildlife warrior's favourite Australia Zoo cap.

To All of You...

Today is "on-line buddy day"

My Garden

I share a garden with my upstairs neighbours.
I am responsible for the strawberries, herbs,
salad greens, and roses.

The rocket is living up to it's name, and taking off.
The strawberries are blushng red almost faster then we can eat them.

Chives, mint, parsley, Italian Parsley, sorel, coz lettuce, oregeno,
a memory herb that I can't recall the name of - yes really!
Cumquats, and two mini lemon trees.

There is also an orange tree with fruit setting
and a kaffir lime tree.
And a regular lemon tree.
Today I planted our first two tomaotes.

We save every drop of water that we can, from every tap; plus
when it rains we have a bucket system set up to catch water
from the down pipes and store it in huge drums.

We have a unique lawn brand and it remains green.

Farewell to Steve Irwin

Click HERE for Memorial Service and TV Broadcast details
"I cannot see how a memorial service would work in any other place other
than the Crocoseum which he built here at the zoo and of which he was so proud,"
"I would therefore ask that everyone please bear with me in
this wish and help me to make this happen." Terri Irwin

Remembering 9/11

Here in Australia it was late at night when the attacks occurred. I was post heart surgery op and had fallen asleep around the wrong way on my bed. I had a TV with cable and had been watching the English BBC News when I fell asleep...what woke me was a quietness, there was no talking on the TV, ...and as I sat up I watched a plane fly into a tall building that had another one on fire in front of it....I flicked over to CNN only to find the same image....I sat stunned.

Everyone else was asleep. About 20 minutes later a friend who was on vacation in Chicago called me. She was in shock. She was due to go to New York in a few weeks. Soon the household awoke hearing me talking and came to see what was going on...we were all stunned. I watched the news all night.
I called a few friends in USA and sent and received several emails.

My son was overseas at the time - in South Korea - I felt a calmness that he was ok...and would be. A few days later I called to check and got a message he was fine. The South Korean Government had placed a ban on public meetings and a few other things but essentially everything was normal.

I watched the footage and reports over the next few days trying to grasp what this meant, to America, to Australia, to the World. It seems to me that on 9/11, when Heroes emmerged, the World's innocence was lost.
To all who lost a loved one that day, and the days following; and for the world, I grieve.

Brisbane City Riverfire Celebrations

3rd September - Father's Day in Australia.

Fathers, and children, and mothers and aunts, uncles, grandparents; in other words families, celebrated together on Sunday. Here in the land Downunder.

The Irwin family were not together. Strangely.

Then Steve died Monday morning - in a fluke event. This man that danced with death almost daily was taken. Sure, doing one of the things he loved best. None the less.

Now, there is another family without a dad, another wife alone; who must try and comfort and explain.
Two more children with a wide shadow of sorrow across their lives.

Loss of a Legend,.

An ordinary bloke died on Monday in an extraordinary event.

DRAMATIC footage of his last moments alive shows Steve Irwin ripping a stingray's barb out of his chest just before he lost consciousness and died.
The freakish death of the Crocodile Hunter was captured on camera as he snorkelled above a large bull stingray in shallow water on the Great Barrier Reef yesterday.

THE body of Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin has arrived home on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, as police who have viewed the footage of his death said he was not provoking the stingray that killed him. A hearse greeted the twin-engined plane on the tarmac at Maroochydore airport at 7.20pm AEST. It is believed his widow Terri remained at the family's home, where she is with her daughter Bindi, 8, and Bob, 2.
Grieving fans of the conservationist and entertainer have been flooding the airwaves, the internet and his zoo to express their sadness over his death.
